Few words about Jewish shofar

shofar has meaningful use in the judaism,it’s a mitzvah to play the shofar in Rosh Hashana like it say in the bible (numbers chapter 29): “And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have a holy convocation: ye shall do no manner of servile work; it is a day of blowing the horn unto you.”

It is also a mitzava to blow the shofar at the conclusion of Yom Kippur after closing prayer.

We believe that playing the shofar at rosh hashana is opening the gate of the sky, so our Lord will be able to listen to our prayers,10 days later is “yom kipor” the jewish holiday where we are fasting in order to clear our sins.

On yom kipor we are also blowing the shofar and it symbolize the closing of the gate of the sky.

The jewish person that play the shofar is usually the rabi .

shofar is made of kudu (antelope) horn, usually the horns come from Africa and being clean and polished here in israel.

blowing the shofar need some practice but some can play it very well and some believe the sound of the shofar help god hear their prayers.

when to light the Chanukah menorah?

The Chanukah menorah’s candles have to be light every evening, starting the evening of the 24th of Kislev,
some tend to light the 9 branch menorah shortly after sunset. And Others tend to light the menorah when the stars come out.
If you forget to light the menorah in time, you can do so later in the evening as long as there are still people in the street ,or as long as someone from the residents are awake.
Because of the holiness of Shabbatit is forbidden to light, prepare or move the Menorah on shabbat.
On Friday, the Menorah should be light before the Sabbath begins, and on Saturday evening, after Shabbat ends.

what is hanukkah

hanukkah called also as Chanukah or the festival of light is a jewish holiday that celebrated for 8 days
for the memory of the Hasmoneans victory over the Syrian-Greeks .
(the Hasmoneans were the jews Guerilla forces in the second centory bce led by Judah the maccabee).
the syrian-greeks that control the holy land back then tried to force the jewish to accept their culture instead
of their beleiving in GOD.

The victory liberated the Jews from the enslavement of the Greeks and the decrees decreed by the Greeks.
Following the victory, the Temple in jerusalem returned to work and the jewish could worship GOD again.
The holiday is celebrated for 8 days because there was no oil in the Temple to light the golden 7 Branch menorah.
But Fortunately, the Hasmoneans found a small jug of oil with very little oil inside,
The miracle was that the small jug of oil lasted for eight days to light the menorah.
this is why in hanukkah holiday every house in israel and every jews are lightening the menorah.

Aladdin oil lamps

Previous to the creation of the Aladdin oil lamps, homestead was usually lit by the flicking light of flat wick, kerosene and oil burning lamps. The creation of round wick, non flicking Aladdin lamp therefore became something of a break, when talking of how people were able to light their house. Aladdin oil lamps provide a solution to the lessening and flickering nature of light which is given off by the traditional lamps.

It uses a circular wick and an uncommon earth mantle that could provide a similar nature of light to a 60 watt bulb when it is heated using the flame of the oil burning lamp. This made the Matle lamp company of America so confident in their product quality that they offered to give a $1000 reward to anyone who could create a lamp that produces a brighter glow. Over 7 million Aladdin lamps were sold in the year 1930, but the reward remains unclaimed.

Mantle remains a pioneer in modern sales technique because they give away Aladdin lamp at their outset and began allowing customers trade in the old and outdated models for a more recent and new ones.

Aladdin lamps are designed in various styles and shapes, with the original models made with brass or nickel plated brass. There are various models and types of metal lamps, which comprises of the bracket lamps, table lamps and singularly beautiful hanging lamps.

The best and highest selling lamps in history of the Aladdin was the Alacite tall Lincoln drape. Alactie was the trademark of Aladdin, it looks like ivory both in texture and color. The moonstone glass was unique also to the Aladdin lamps. This name was given because the glass itself usually glows like the pale of the moon when it is lit from the inside. The quality of the glowing moonstone is as famous with the collectors now, just as it was to the customers of Aladdin in the 1930s.

Some collectors see the Aladdin lamp as an elegy for a way of life that ended long ago. The Aladdin manufactured numerous uncommon electric lights as well, following the invention of electricity.

Most of my aladin collection at the web site are brass made lamps mostly use for decoration.

Torah Scrolls – The Jewish Bible

Sinсе Sinаi the Jеwiѕh реорlе аnd thе Tоrаh hаvе been inѕераrаblе. Whеnеvеr thе Jewish реорlе have bееn thrеаtеnеd, ѕо hаѕ the Tоrаh. Yеt thrоughоut all the hardships, thе Jewish реорlе аnd thе Tоrаh hаvе еndurеd. Thе Jewish еmрhаѕiѕ оn thе study оf Tоrаh has always kept it аlivе for the next generation.

Evеn though the ѕtudу of Torah wаѕ fоrbiddеn and рuniѕhаblе bу dеаth, the Jewish people still studied. Thеу еѕtаbliѕhеd undеrgrоund уеѕhivаѕ to spread thе light оf Tоrаh tо thе Jеwiѕh реорlе. Evеn in thе mоѕt horrible аnd hоѕtilе еnvirоnmеnt оf thе concentration camps, thе light оf Tоrаh wаѕ bright. There iѕ; If аnу ѕinglе letter оf thе Tоrаh’ѕ 304,805 lеttеrѕ iѕ miѕѕing, thе whоlе Tоrаh scroll has to bе wrарреd uр аnd put away until it iѕ fixеd. Sо if ѕоmеоnе аѕkѕ you, “Whаt’ѕ the most imроrtаnt lеttеr in thе Tоrаh?” thе аnѕwеr is, “Evеrу lеttеr iѕ!”

Nоw imagine аll thе Jеwiѕh реорlе as оnе Tоrаh scroll. Eасh реrѕоn, big оr ѕmаll, rich or рооr, a рiоuѕ scholar or juѕt a simple Jеw, is оnе lеttеr. Thаt mаkеѕ еvеrуоnе juѕt аѕ imроrtаnt as everyone еlѕе, right?

It tаkеѕ a ѕсribе about a уеаr tо pen thе 304,805 lеttеrѕ fоund in each and еvеrу Tоrаh, the еxасt ѕаmе way it’ѕ been writtеn ѕinсе thе time оf Mоѕеѕ. There аrе over 4,000 lаwѕ thаt diсtаtе thе writing. Evеn the ѕlightеѕt ѕliр оf thе реn, thе ѕmаllеѕt miѕtаkе, саn be rеаѕоn to burn thе ѕсrоll and ѕtаrt over, especially if a miѕtаkе iѕ fоund in thе wоrd God. Indееd, Gоd’ѕ nаmе iѕ ѕо hоlу, a ѕсribе must bаthе in a mikvаh (rituаl рооl) bеfоrе writing the Lоrd’ѕ fоur-lеttеr (Hеbrеw) nаmе.

Here are some other facts about the torah scrolls:

  1. It tаkеѕ аbоut a year tо writе аn еntirе Tоrаh Sсrоll.
  2. Even a ѕinglе miѕѕing оr misshapen lеttеr invаlidаtеѕ the еntirе Sеfеr Torah.
  3. Thе Torah wе uѕе tоdау in your ѕуnаgоguе is written еxасtlу the ѕаmе way the Tоrаh wаѕ writtеn the vеrу firѕt timе bу Mоѕеѕ 3,300 years аgо.
  4. Thе Tоrаh iѕ mаdе оf mаnу sheets оf раrсhmеnt thаt аrе ѕеwn together to mаkе one very lоng scroll.
  5. Thе еntirе Tоrаh is written bу hаnd, еасh letter iѕ inѕсribеd аnd individually fоrmеd with a ԛuill аnd ѕресiаllу рrераrеd ink.
  6. The Tоrаh iѕ read аt lеаѕt fоur times a week in synagogues around thе wоrld.
  7. Thе a Tоrаh ѕсrоll iѕ written оnlу with соnѕоnаntѕ, withоut vocalization. Hеnсе оnе wоrd writtеn in Hebrew саn hаvе multiple mеаningѕ. Hеnсе, whеrе the Hebrew tеxt says “BNCH,” one might rеndеr thiѕ аѕ “Bоnауiсh” “уоur Buildеrѕ” оr as “B’nауiсh” “уоur Childrеn.” This оссurѕ quite Vоwеlѕ marks wеrе оnlу аddеd much lаtеr аftеr the tеxt was writtеn аnd соdifiеd.

So еvеn our very ability tо rеаd аnd undеrѕtаnd thе text iѕ bаѕеd uроn an оrаl trаditiоn which рrоvidеѕ uѕ with bоth the ability to рrоnоunсе the аlрhаbеt, tо read, аnd mоѕt importantly undеrѕtаnd thе text.

NOTE: The torah scrolls that we are selling here are replicas, they were printed on payper, they did not write by  “a sofer stam”  hand writing, they were printed in the same font as real torah looks like.

But they are nice to have in every jewish house, and great to read at, or just learning the torah.

More About Seven Branches Menorah and the Jewish Menorah

The 7 branches menorah’s made dates back to the ancient times during the period of the first temple and has been a symbol of Judaism. The 7 branches menorah’s made is a means of remembering the period of the temple and it is also meant to serve as a reminder of how God created the earth with everything in it in seven days. It is also said to symbolize the time Moses went up to mount Horeb and saw the burning bush and it is one of the symbols of the country Israel.

The 7 branches menorah’s made was carried by the Israelites as they passed through the desert before getting to Israel where they lit the tabernacle which was their place for prayer as they travelled and after the first temple was built the 7 branches menorah’s made was placed there.

The 7 branches menorah’s made, was used for the first time to light the inside of the temple and was lit every day by filling the lamps of the candle holders with olive oil. This is still done up till today in synagogues and homes. The difference these days is that the 7 branches menorah’s made make use of electric bulb or candles to be lit instead of olive oil but it still serves the same purpose. The 7 branches menorah can be made from materials such as metal, brass, silver or gold and is most times decorated to like the 7 branches menorah’s made of the ancient times.

In the ancient times the 7 branches menorah’s made was used most times as the only source of light inside the ancient temple that had no windows. Every day the menorah was cleaned and lit by the high priest with the use of just pure olive oil. The lamps were meant to be able to burn throughout the whole day and despite having the same amount of oil poured into all the lamps, history has it that the lamp in the center never went out and because of this it was used to light the wicks of the other lamps every day. The lamp that never went out was seen as a miracle and a sign that God will always be with the Jewish people particularly in this wonderful holy temple.

The conventional design of the 7 branches menorah’s made was revealed to Moses by God in a vision which can be seen in Exodus 25:31-40 part of which states

“Make a menorah out of pure gold. The menorah should be formed by hammering it. Its base, stem and cups, spheres and flowers must be hammered out of a [single piece of gold]. Six branches shall extend from its sides, three branches on one side of the menorah, and three branches on the other side”.

In current times, synagogues are known to have and own either a traditional 7 branch menorah’s made or in some instances a single lamp not far from where the Torah is placed, ensuring a regular light source for the holy book.

The Significance Of Menorah In The Jewish Faith

Menorah in Hebrew means lamp. The original Menorah of the Jerusalem temple was a sacred candelabrum having seven branches, and serves as the most common and one of the oldest Jewish symbols to this very day. The present menorah is different from the temple’s menorah in that, it has nine branches instead of seven. It has also come to represent Hanukkah, an eight day holiday to commemorate the miracle of oil that should have lasted for one day but lasted for eight days. The Hanukkah menorah is one gift that is in particular, appropriate to be given to friends and family (not only to Jewish friends) all year round. It is a work of art made of one piece of gold with quite a mind-boggling detail – flowers, knobs and almond-shaped cups. It has eight symmetrical branches, four on either side of a central vertical branch.

These days, Hanukkah Menorahs can be found in several different places such as homes, religious houses, institutions and even stationery of significant establishments. Although they are only lit once a year (every night of the eight days of Hanukkah), they can be displayed all year round as a prize item of art. It is most likely for this reason that the Hanukkah menorah remains the top selling gift for every Jewish celebration. In an increasing number, parents now give their children gifts of Hanukkah.

The choice of Hanukkah menorah is fantastic. On yearly basis, expert designers bring out new and innovative designs of different sizes and colors. From conventional to modern, there is a menorah design that suits any age or choice. You can even have more than one Hanukkah menorah. With the arrival of a handful online stores selling lovely and unique menorah, you need not worry about buying one, regardless of where you live.
